My East Tennessee & Western North Carolina--Vida Division Railroad is a 23x28 foot HO/HOn3 layout designed for operation. Up to ten operators run freight and passenger trains between Johnson City, Tennessee, and Boone, North Carolina. The Johnson City yard features dual-gauge track where, as on the prototype, standard gauge cars are switched with narrow gauge engines. Eastbound trains battle the Doe River Gorge on their way to the iron mine in Cranberry and beyond. Passenger trains stop at Pardee Point for "Kodaking." As on the prototype, passenger trains follow a timetable, while freight trains run as extras. A complete Dispatcher's Office includes a "window" where the full-size dispatcher enjoys the same view as his HO scale counterpart in Johnson City. Train jobs include Dispatcher, Johnson City Yard Master, Cranberry Yard Master, freight crews, and passenger crews. A typical operating session lasts two-and-a- half actual hours using a six-to-one fast clock. While based on the ET&WNC in 1925, the Vida Division includes many whimsical scenes that reflect my love of fantasy and story-telling.
