The layout models the Norfolk and Western in West Virginia in the 1950s. Separate interchanges with the B&O and C&O are also modeled. The towns are freelance but the locomotives, rolling stock, signals and general railroad structures/practices are prototypical--i.e., "freelance prototype". All locomotives are sound equipped. Most of the structures are scratch-built. Control is DCC/Digitrax. The layout has also been designed for night ops with most buildings internally lit and special overhead night lighting installed.
