The layout models the Norfolk and Western in West Virginia in the 1950s. Separate interchanges with the B&O and C&O are also modeled. The towns are freelance but the locomotives, rolling stock, signals and general railroad structures/practices are prototypical--i.e., "freelance prototype". All locomotives are sound equipped. Most of the structures are scratch-built. Control is DCC/Digitrax. The layout has also been designed for night ops with most buildings internally lit and special overhead night lighting installed.

The Loon Lake Railway & Navigation Co. is a freelance railroad set in the Pacific Northwest in the late 1930’s. It combines a logging operation with common carriage. The layout features a busy waterfront, geared locomotives, loads of detail, and numerous scratch-built structures. The unique benchwork has a drink/tool shelf along the perimeter following a design pioneered by the late Brian Ellerby. The 130’ mainline is code 70 and the logging areas are Code 55 with stub switches. The layout occupies a 26’ x 22’ area in a large recreation room and the scenery is 100% complete. Power is CVP Easy DCC. The layout has been featured in numerous periodicals.
